Why 1789 Minerals?

Prior to founding 1789 Minerals, our families were mineral and royalty owners, just like you; albeit ours were small. We understood the challenges, frustrations and struggles that groups such as foundations and individuals, who hold these interests, can go through with when working with buyers. We set out to create a different kind of company – one built upon a bedrock that are more than just empty words and empty wallets.

​We set out to follow through on our commitments, to make transactions as relatively ‘pain-free’ as possible and to be a company with a healthy and steady balance sheet so that sellers don’t question getting paid come closing day.

Well-Managed and Well-Funded: 1789 Minerals’ management individually has decades of building, owning and running successful businesses in the oil and gas industry. We have experience in sophisticated risk-management markets, protecting the collective income producing mineral/royalty base, which in turn protects the seller. We have collectively leased hundreds of thousands of acres over the years of building land companies and building out operating and non-operating E&P companies, across conventional and non-conventional basins. We relate to and understand the worries and frustrations of a seller, think and act like E&P operators and are fiscally conservative like good financial stewards that have a focused, capital disciplined approach to building a long-term business.

We are well funded, and are grateful for the patient, long-term approach of our investors, one of the country’s most esteemed private equity funds, who are backed by some of the largest university endowments, some of the largest financial institutions globally, hedge funds and high-net worth family offices who have weathered the volatile cycles of the energy industry. Our methodology is engrained in our outlook – employing a fiscally sound and methodical approach, yet partner with these like-minded equity groups who are equally as patient and creative as 1789 Minerals in building an ethical and long-term business. Our goal is to build this long-term business on a foundation of ethics. Our focus is building a long-term company with a charitable legacy of making lasting impact. This sound management, dove-tailed with a healthy and stable balance sheet, gives you peace of mind that we’ll be here not only come closing day for your transaction, but also years following, critical in any long-term partnership.

Flexible, Focused and Creative: We are flexible, focused and creative. As mentioned, no two deals are alike, each with its own set of challenges, needs, demands, timelines, desires and motivations. We do not portend to push every deal through the same square-pegged round hole. Our flexibility and creativity are what partially sets us apart. From the half-acre royalty interest, partial-interest purchase to the multi-state transaction with a Fortune 100 company, 1789 Minerals works with each group to ensure that the deal gets done and done at a fair valuation for both buyer and seller. We are focused on a single-mission which is to ethically and seamlessly acquire mineral royalty interests and non-op AFE’s. We are creative.

While some companies mix minerals and royalties like oil and water, we are open to creative ideas and structures, from acquiring Non-Op WI AFE’s and ORRI’s, to other non-traditional structures. There are situations when you may not want to sell your entire royalty interests and may want to roll the dice with 1789 in the possible upside of if/when a well gets drilled. We’re happy to buy partial interests and ‘partner’ with you on the potential opportunity. We’re an open book and have structured deals in numerous ways, including some pretty obscure non-traditional methods of payments such as paying in foreign currency or precious metals! While creative, we don’t try to be everything to everyone. If the deal isn’t right for you or for us, we will let you know, as we are sensitive to your and our time alike.

Time is a commodity more precious than minerals and we are sensitive to that fact, that your lives do not singularly revolve around this industry and thus will strive to be focused, flexible and creative to get a deal done for you.

OUR STORY

After co-founding and managing our own respective (and arguably relatively ‘successful’) operating and non-operating E&P companies, the partners realized how inefficient the non-op, mineral/royalty business can be. We set out to create a more efficient and values-based company where we have a like-minded mission to use the long-term platform of royalties and minerals to give back and create lasting legacy that would also fundamentally help those in the communities in which serve, along with children around the world, all of whom are either suffering at the hands of cancer, human trafficking or the dire need to life and eternal sustaining water.

1789 was an instrumental year in the United States, as our great nation continued to build upon the firm footing of a strong Republic, a bedrock of democratic representation and the flourishing of thought, ideas, experiments, challenging the norm of establishment and an enlightened period of education. These, too, are the ideals of how we operate our company. It was also a year in which, around the world, minerals were discovered and used to the benefit of humanity for then and centuries to come, just as we too aspire to build a legacy company for commerce and charity for years to come.​
